Help with Home Game
Want to change up our routine tournament. Tonight there will be about 4-5 persons playing. Was thinking of doing a simple cash game. $5NL max buyin and unlimited rebuys. What should blind structure be? Usually for tournaments we all start out with 50 chips and blinds start at 1-2, then goto 2-4, 3-6, etc etc. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Help with Home Game
How about going up with the buy in. I wouldn't even leave my house or dirty up my house for that. No matter how many re-buys there were.

Re: Help with Home Game
For a $5 max buyin I would play a $.02/$.04 blind structure. For $5 in chips I would distribute as follows:
$.01 chips - 15 $.05 chips - 15 $.10 chips - 11 $.50 chips - 6 Depending on how much money you usually play for, this might seem a little low. If you change the max buyin to $10 you could go to a $.05/$.10 blind and get rid of the $.01 chips. |

Re: Help with Home Game
In a cash game, blinds stay the same throughout. They don't increase.

Another idea since you are playing with just a few players is $0.05/$0.05 blinds. The nickle denominations are a little easier to deal with than pennies. We find the identical blinds increases the action and ends up juicing up the pot when the betting is done.

Re: Help with Home Game
If you're just trying to get people used to it and doing unlimited rebuys for a cash game, you can consider a soft blind increase as the night wears on and stacks are bigger. It's a way to get people used to bigger limits while letting them cash out (ie, not a tourney).
However, doing a bunch of quick little tourneys can be fun (maybe just 1st/2nd or winner take all, depending on speed and participants). But I recommend you pick a chip structure that's not dependant on the buy-in. Start with 1500 in chips and 25/50 blinds. Or whatever feels right for you. That helps with the separation of chips from cash value, and gives the tournament a little extra fun as people bet thousands of dollars. Also, you can increase the buy-in and not have to re-think a tournament structure. |

Re: Help with Home Game
But let's say your SB was $0.05 and your BB was $0.10: do you think many guys in the SB would fold preflop with a bunch of limpers?
I don't see how you can get meaningful play at those levels but to each his own. |
