I personally think that IQ tests are a very accurate measurement of someone's cognitive ability. There are some dramatic inaccuracies when you take the test online, however. First, most online tests do not include all the parts of the original IQ test which also includes physical manipulation of objects, ordering events, etc. Instead they are all multiple choice. The IQ test administered by the government, military and vocational evaluators involve open ended questions and absolutely no multiple choice questions. I took one and I found it to be very entertaining and stimulating. The reason why multiple choice does not function as a testing mechanism for IQ is because score is dependent on completion time. You could fill in bubble 2 in all the questions on an online exam, get about 25% of the questions correct (statistically speaking) but you finish in 30 seconds and your score is probably off the chart.

You could have a higher IQ, you could have a lower IQ, it's really hard to tell without going to a vocational evaluator and taking the real test.

you have to realize that these tests are child's play compared to real IQ tests. I remember being very excited at scoring 170 or something on one of these, only to find that my 13 yr old sister sat down and scored a 162.... obv something wrong

You will notice that most of these online IQ tests offer a special package deal at the end that "breaks down" your cognitive ability for the low low low price of $15!!!! Well, if you were marketing that [censored], what do you think would be the best way to get people to buy it? Yup... inflate people's scores.
