Why are 6max games so popular online?
Yet almost everyone at the table at B&M casinos gets all grouchy when even one seat is open, and refuse to play if it gets down to 7. ??? |

Re: Why are 6max games so popular online?
probably because 6max is faster online. Also I think live players get mad when the game is short since they're still paying full rake?

Becasue live players are worse and hate playing short becuase they dont know how to play short. If live offered 6max tables for a long time (if even sucessful) players would become more comfortable with it but i dont see that ever happening

Re: Why are 6max games so popular online?
Paying full rake, while it may be there justification is an invalid one. Consider most mid/high stakes games where you pay a half hour fee, in a short handed game you are playing more hands, but paying the same amount so the rake is less. In addition, most casinos will charge you a 'half-rake' if the table is shorthanded.
While I think this miscontrived notion about rake may be part of it, I think another component is the additional aggression and volatility associated with shorthanded play. As mentioned above, most live players are unable/unwilling to adjust to these conditions. |

6 max is faster and a lot of action players like the quick pace of getting more flops faster.
The rake is definately the reason why people don't like to play SH live (at least at low limit games). |

Re: Why are 6max games so popular online?
Several posts have touched on it, but none have nailed it.
In 6 max games you see more hands per hour than at a full ring game. If you have an edge in the game, then you are maximizing your edge by playing more hands. Also, bad players tend to play more hands, worse hands, and with less attention to position, again maximizing a good players edge in the game. Frankly IME the same applies live, but it is hard as everyone is trying to fill or break the game as soon as a couple of people leave. It is a rare floor that will let a game run short handed for any period of time. |

It is a rare floor that will let a game run short handed for any period of time. [/ QUOTE ] ??? In LA good floor let's games run short (when they could otherwise be consolidated) until players start complaining or showing signs that they don't like it. Then the game that complains the most (or the shortest game) gets broken and draws for seats if necessary. Once again in LA I've almost never seen a floor break a short game 10/20 and above when the players want to play and I've never seen a smaller game where the players would play shorter than four handed when the players could otherwise get a seat elsewhere. Of course in CA it seams you guys have one floor for 43 or so tables so things may be different! ~ Rick |

Ten six-handed tables would liely take up a lot more space then six ten-handed tables. Another problem short is the playing enviornment tends to be more hostile;, when you're beat as it's more often the same guy over and over again, a face you can see as opposed to a screen name. Lastly B&M players at all but the highest limits are usually happiest winning big multi-way pots. This doesn't happen much short. ~ Rick |

Re: Why are 6max games so popular online?
One time at the Commerce, this really REALLY bad player sat down - 4/8/ limit.
I and the other 3 good players managed to stack the other little fish, but this guy remained, and we all took turns at him since he played *every* hand. Once I even took a break for an orbit to stretch my legs, leaving the table 4 handed. No one said a word. More than once the floor came by to ask if we wanted to break, to which the table shouted "NO!!" (including the fish). Finally, after the fish had dumped about $2000 into the table, we all racked up, and bid each other a fond adieu. LOL AB Edit: But yea, in LA people get irritated when it gets short handed - but there's a good reason. When A table gets down to 5 or 6 players, THOUSE players are usually the rocks since all the fish just busted out. The rocks aren't complaining that it's short, so much as they are complaining there are no/not enough more fish to fillet. AB |

Of course in CA it seams you guys have one floor for 43 or so tables so things may be different! ~ Rick [/ QUOTE ] CA is the worst for this, granted the floor on graveyard is good, she is a monster when it comes to breaking tables. I remember one that to this day pisses me off. We had four or five tables of 5-150 running with 5-6 players on each. NO ONE was bitching about it. None of the tables were on reduced rake. She insisted on consolidating the tables "I am not paying the dealers overtime", all the tables complained. Within 10 minutes, she had one short handed table of 5-150 running, which broke 30 mins later. Now compare this to the floor at the Fort (now retired)... On more than one occasion I have played HU and 3-4 handed in the then 2-150 into the wee hours, even played it as a mixed game or omaha hi. |
