Foreman used to actually bust open heavy bags with his punches.

[/ QUOTE ]

So did Bruce Lee, 5'7'', 160 lbs.

Blah blah blah. One was an actor one was an actual fighter.

Nah I'm 6'1/2"

I mentioned reach along with a bunch of other things I feel are far more important, but reach is still a factor between boxers of comparable skill. Tyson won handily in his early days because he was ferocious, relentless, in better shape, and generally stronger than his opponents. The sport has evolved though and the bigger guys with longer arms are very highly skilled, very strong, and in great shape. Honestly I don't think the short guys like Tyson can compete on the championship stage anymore.

Fedor Emelianenko is 6'0...Tyson was like 5'10''. Fedor is by far the greatest MMA fighter of all time. 2 inches.

Boxing is not fighting. Standing on your feet and punching the upper half of each others body is a small subset of what is allowed in a real fight.

Is saying "cut! That guy almost screwed my hair up" allowed in an a real fight?

Just wondering.

Smash, some of your points have been unfairly disparaged, but on this one, you don't know what you're talking about. Bruce Lee was one of the best fighters in the world, and THEN he became an actor. This isn't Keanu Reeves who learned a little martial arts to do a film. Bruce Lee actually invented full contact sparring in martial arts. So disabuse yourself of the notion that every guy you see in a kung fu film is just an actor. (Jackie Chan is a stunt man, not a fighter, so he'd be better make your point)

On the subject of heavy bags, my girlfriend busted one open, and she's 5'3", 125 lbs, so take it with a grain of salt. Obviously those guys all had awesome punches. We don't need a heavy bag to tell us that.

I was.

It might be easier to read the post you quote in your reply if you're actually talking about a completely unrelated subject. To avoid confusion.

I guess you completely misunderstood the point as usual. You compared Bruce Lee to a boxer saying one is an actor and one is a fighter. Whether or not that comparison is fair or not, it's even easier to compare a boxer to a UFC fighter and say one is a fighter and one is not. Punching the the opponent's upper half while standing is just a small set of skills needed to really fight, which is why MMA fighters do not focus on this more than other areas.

No, mainly because they're so miserably bad at it, actually.

Good try though. Don't let the facts stand in the way of arguing against something nobody said.
