Default AQo how badly did I butcher this?

I'm lost on what to do w/my cards on this type of board. should I check flop? check/fold turn? river? [img]/images/graemlins/confused.gif[/img]

no reads on opponents
absolute poker $.02/.04 6 max/6 handed

hero is utg with A [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]Q [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]
hero raises, 1 fold, mp calls, button calls, 2 folds

flop (7.5 sb): 8 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]10 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]8 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]
hero bets, mp calls, button folds

turn (9.5 sb): 5 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]
hero bets, mp calls

river (5.75 bb): 6 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]
hero ???

results in white below:

I think I have drowned myself in dead kitten blood, someone please help me stop killing them.

I bet the flop here but his call tells me he has something. The turn and river are mysteries to me as well I know this is a hole in my game. I generally check the turn and hope he checks behind. If he bets im gone in the absence of any draws other than TPTK.

It's impossible to play that river optimally without a read, but I'll say this: You're a much bigger underdog when you bet and are called then when you check and call. (Not that I'm saying you need to be showing this down every time.)

missed that. Then I can check/call. You might save a bet on the river with this passive villian. I think betting the river is worse.
