Also thanks for the links, I had been to some of those sites before but couldn't remember what they were!

It is a long time from now until then, info people give you today might be out of date by then.

Why is everyone talking about max buyins? It's not like they force you to buy in for the max.

I think most proficient players want to buy max - shorts buys are considered -EV for many (and I agree). I need to be deep to make my game work its best.

How long ahead of time should be enough to get a room at the place we want? I'm just not sure how busy Vegas is during the summer.

Use hotels.com or any other travel site to help you pick a hotel in your price range. But don't book through them. Typically you can get the same deal directly from the hotel. So pick your spot, and use the hotel's web page to book directly. The advantage is then you can cancel your reservation and get a full refund (long as you do it >72 or 48 or 24 hours in advance, depending on hotel and time of year), and they don't bill you for the entire stay as soon as you reserve it. All the hotels seem to charge your credit card for the first night soon as you book it, but that's better than being charged for the whole stay as hotels.com does.

So... *I* would shop around about 3mo in advance. Pick a spot and reserve with the hotel. A month later, repeat your shopping. If prices have come down, rebook and cancel the old reservation. Repeat a month later. Repeat two weeks before your trip. Repeat one week before your trip. Vegas prices sometimes fall a lot as the dates draw close since they're trying to fill the rooms and unexpectedly low demand means they'll slash prices. But if it turns out to be busier than they expected, rates will rise, so it's not good to wait until the last minute.

Forget IP, rent a car, and stay at the Orleans. It's a fairly decent place and basically the same price as IP. It's a few blocks off the strip, but it has a good sized poker room right there. The best thing about IP is the location, but you're not going to be walking the strip in August when it's 115 degrees anyway.

On the strip.

Imperial Palace may be the cheapest.
However, I'd also look at Flamingo or Tropicana if you wanted a place that's a little more flashy (if not a bit faded).
For that matter, if you're not pushing labor day weekend, you may want to check out places like Excalibur, TI, Ballys, Harrahs, or if you get lucky and are willing to spend a bit more, Monte Carlo, Luxor, Paris or even Alladin.

Mid-week prices will be lower still.

The charts at www.allvegaspoker.com has the min and max buy ins for all casinos. It ranges from $60-$100 at most middle brow places.

"The charts at www.allvegaspoker.com has the min and max buy ins for all casinos."

But they are NEVER up to date and I mean NEVER.

Heck, they don't even list all of the Vegas poker rooms but whatever.

Happy Pokering,

Howard
