Really important in NL to know who will pay you off and for how much.

If Mike is as good a player as he thinks (and others) I dont see why he doesnt buy-in for more.....Two grand is lame.....tell him to man up like Mo-llagio and put 9k on the table...

Bart:

with respect to the Trish flopped set.....do you not agree that her checking behind basically means she has aces?

Would she not bet KK there in position? and if she bets KK there as a continuation bluff, I think her betting there would be fine......and if Stan flopped middle set she might build herself a pot if he puts her on AK

[/ QUOTE ]

Her check was fine, and looks as much like KK as it does AA. So I don't think it turns her hand face up at all, it just means she is either really weak or really strong, but that doesn't mean much.

Also, Mike is playing really badly tonight.

I still have to disagree with you there......will Trish not bet KK on an A high flop when checked to her in position?

Can anyone confirm or deny this?

[/ QUOTE ]

Betting KK on an A high flop basically turns your hand into a bluff. You are way ahead or way behind. Usually you're better off checking KK on an A high board, particularly in a HU pot. You can induce bluffs and get a little more value and also keep the pot small. In fact I think betting KK on an A high flop in a HU pot is often spew. No better hands fold and usually no worse hands call. As you saw in that hand, Trish made an extra $500 by checking the flop as opposed to betting. Her turn raise DID turn her hand basically face up as a set of aces, but her flop check didn't nessicarily.

I've seen Trish bet KK/QQ on A high flops often however, so a check might be a little suspicious. But many players will check back with a scared KK/QQ so them checking the flop after reraising preflop and an A high board doesn't mean a whole lot. In Trish's spot, I'm checking the flop with AA/KK there unless stacks are really deep, just calling a turn bet (trying to look like a KK type of hand), and the river usually plays itself.

A lot of players will only check AA on an A high flop after reraising preflop, and will bet KK/QQ. Against that specific player, I agree that their check is transparent. But as I said earlier, many players including myself will play other hands in this manner as well. Hope that helps.

good explanation imo....Trish does not need to build a pot up she is inherently short chipped on this hand. She may even have wanted to smooth call the turn and make a push on the river....although she risks value from a set calling her if the broadway 4 liner comes or risks losing...

Thursday's game is a return to a game little seen these days. Tonight, it'll be 5-5 NL with a $300 min/$500 max buyin. Hopefully those who've been waiting for the return of this game will tune in to watch.

Seems he was being "friendly" with the 5 seat. A too-common appearance at the Bike and many CA casinos.
