I have a friend EXACTLY like this, pretty much failed out. What he did is study his ass off for the finals, turn in a bunch of HW, and plead to try to take the tests he missed. Surprisingly this worked out enough to get him C's in the 1st yr courses. However, once in his sophmore year the profs weren't as kind. I think this works for smaller schools better than universities or even state schools. If he needs a kick in the ass to get moving then you should do it.

depends on the school, here anything below a 2.0 is academic probation. if you fail every class it could be worse.

if you're going to fail regardless, why bother taking it? the prof aint going to give him a C for showing up and failing
