Sorry if this has been covered - I did a quick search & couldn't find too many posts on Getting Started in Hold'Em, by Ed Miller.
I want to get my boyfriend a poker book for X-mas. He's very interested, but knows nothing about the game. I don't want the book to focus on limit/nl or cash/tournament b/c I want him to be able to decide what he wants to focus on once he gets started (I mainly play nl cash). Can anyone recommend/not recommend GSHE for a newbie? Or, is there another broad-book that you can recommend (would prefer not to get him Super System, as I know his main interest is Hold 'Em). Thanks! |

Sounds like a good candidate to me, given your description.

I think GSIH sounds like a good idea.

Has anyone tried the NL cash game short stack strategy suggested in GSIH? Does it work?

From your description of intended recipient, GSIH seems the perfect choice; none better. It's always the first book I lend to friends/colleagues who get interested in the game.
