Default Thoughts on \"Getting Started in Hold\'Em\"

Sorry if this has been covered - I did a quick search & couldn't find too many posts on Getting Started in Hold'Em, by Ed Miller.

I want to get my boyfriend a poker book for X-mas. He's very interested, but knows nothing about the game. I don't want the book to focus on limit/nl or cash/tournament b/c I want him to be able to decide what he wants to focus on once he gets started (I mainly play nl cash). Can anyone recommend/not recommend GSHE for a newbie? Or, is there another broad-book that you can recommend (would prefer not to get him Super System, as I know his main interest is Hold 'Em).

Thanks!

Has anyone tried the NL cash game short stack strategy suggested in GSIH? Does it work?

From your description of intended recipient, GSIH seems the perfect choice; none better. It's always the first book I lend to friends/colleagues who get interested in the game.
