Re: The Eight Foot Two Schlub
[ QUOTE ]
He'd be a superstar. Not only would he start but he'd be the most dominant player in the league and could probably take a last place team to the NBA Finals. The parameters specified pretty much describe Shaq plus a foot! This guy would be way better than Shaq after a little practice and conditioning. He'd be just about unstoppable by any defender in the league on post plays. [/ QUOTE ] Dude, you obviously know nothing about basketball. |

Re: The Eight Foot Two Schlub
Yeah he'd start.
Would he be the best or one of the best or just meh? I dunno, I think part of it would have to do with the person. He'd have the physical talent to be THE BEST....but he couldn't do it by having like junior high bball skills on his massive frame. The hardest part would be improving his lateral movement...if an average joe turned giant could do that effectively then he'd be unstoppable. Yugoslav |

Re: The Eight Foot Two Schlub
[ QUOTE ]
Of course he doesn't start. Basketball is a game of finesse, agility, strength and above all conditioning. Going up and down the court for forty minutes is no joke, and an above average athletic thirty year old is not going to make it, without superior conditioning. Think Chris Dudley or even Shaun Bradley, who has above average skills and good conditioning and even though he's only 7'6, someone only 6" taller with average athletic ability is not going to cut it. Now if our hypothetical person is 9'6 350 pounds -- now that's a more difficult question. [/ QUOTE ] Yeah but dudley and bradley were of below average ability physically compared to like a 5'8" dude. This dude is 6" taller AND can move like he's a 5'8" dude. Plus, if he has any motivation, getting up and down the court will be really really easy. Like take anyone who runs alot and put them out on a bball court and they will have NO problem running around.... He would obv start....motivation and such would be key as to superstar or not. David, No. Meet Sun Ming Ming. [/ QUOTE ] That dude sounds waaaaaaaaaay below average in terms of mobility and general physical aptitude. This isn't what I assume DS is talking about in the OP. Yugoslav |

Re: The Eight Foot Two Schlub
[ QUOTE ]
Muresan is closer to what we're looking for. I forgot he had that much mass, also I thought he was 7'6 or 7'5 not as tall as Bol. Website has him listed at 7'7 303 pounds. 6.3 rebounds per game, 8.8 points per game. Not exactly a dominating force...and much less production than the most centers playing right now. [/ QUOTE ] Muresan also didn't have average athletic ability...it was definitely below average due mainly to his size. His lateral movement was AWFULAWFULAWFUL and his coordination wasn't good either. I think it's just hard for people to imagine what average abilities on an insanely huge body would be like. Re: The Eight Foot Two Schlub
limon,
Muresan played two years of college ball in Romania and then a year of pro ball in France before coming to the NBA. There's no doubt the guy described by Sklansky would eventually start. |

Re: The Eight Foot Two Schlub
Simply being 8 ft. tall he would start. Mark Eaton would be a good example. He changed shots, and took up a lot of space with little to no ability. He would start on any team.
