Advice against a \"maniac\"
Although Ive said maniac I dont know if to classify this guy as your "normal" maniac.
Came across him the other night at $25nl 5c/10c 6 max, played about 80 hands on his table & watched him in a couple of sessions later. 1.Plays virtually any 2 PF (VP$IP 93%)& all for a 9bb raise. 2.Calls any re-raise or AI from a small stack (less than 50bb). 3.Bets every flop 1/2 to full pot,big bets/pushes on turn/river regularly. Only saw him over abt 300 hands during which he got extremely lucky, busting big pairs with hands like 53o,and left the table in 3 sessions with 3 X buy-in +. Obviously he seems extremely exploitable but I would be interested to hear your strategy against this player, starting hands/position/bet sizes etc and would you sit on the left or right of him.Thanks. p.s.Not a big hand sample size but I am a solid winner at this level over the last 3 months. |

Re: Advice against a \"maniac\"
Sounds like a typical maniac (high VPIP, high PF aggro).
Usually players like that will have a high degree of variance (will hit huge pots, but will also lose huge pots). Against maniacs, you want to tighten up and bust them with the nuts. They will usually pay you off if you just play standard, ABC poker with the goods. I'd play less trap hands (KT, QT) and use position to your advantage. |

Re: Advice against a \"maniac\"
Play like a nit and value bet your big hands like your life depends on it. Importantly, playing against these type of players is very high variance and if you feel like you cant stomach getting sucked out on and losing a few buyins, then there is no shame in finding another table.
However if you are well rolled its some of the fastest money you are likely to make. |

Yeah just tighten up, hit your hands and play rope a dope. I wouldn't recommend raising them though unless you are prepared to call a re-raise.

Yep, you don't need the nuts. Just a decent hand and the will to go for a ride.

Re: Advice against a \"maniac\"
Play good hands in raised pots in position.
Or...start off short stacked and raise AI preflop with top 10% hands. |
