to push or make standard raise 3/4xs bb
blinds are 300/600 50ante I have 6k and sit in the c/o. Folded to me and we are about 20 spots from the money. Button has 15k sb 12k and bb 6.5k Naturally I get AKs no chance to lay this down here so my options are to make the standard raise at this table has been 3xs bb. With 10 bb left I m pot commited here once I raise as I m not playing for the small money. Do I make the standard raise or move in and force them to pick up a huge hand to give me atcion? I seem to be doing something wrong here as I like to make the standard raise and get the bb to play a weaker A or K with me. Which I like except when were near the bubble they are catching the 3 outers. So that leaves me thinking about pushing in and hope they fold settling for the blinds and antes.

Definitely push, it's the worst when you get committed with AK vs A9.

If they are putting their money in when they only have 3 outs that's GOOD for you. No, actually that's GREAT for you. That said, when my stack is that small (M=4) I'm definitely in push/fold mode.

Re: to push or make standard raise 3/4xs bb
This is an obvious push for the reasons said already... but also for the purposes of future hands.
You're short stacked and likely going to be in a lot of push/fold situations in the very near future. You'll surely be forced to do so with much worse hands than AK, and to survive you'll need those weak-hand pushes to make it through and steal the blinds. Pushing premium hands short stacked better disguises what you're doing and defends your ability to open-push with 9-6 next orbit. In other words, when you're in p/f mode (which you clearly are here), don't deviate from that when you get good hands to try to induce action. Opponents will pick up on that very quickly and will be more willing to call your pushes later when you really, really, really want them to fold. Of course, the best case here is that someone suspects you're pushbotting and calls with a weaker A, in which case you double up and are relatively safe for a bit. But more likely, you'll pick up the blinds and still be in p/f mode (or very close to it... different people have different threshholds, but 12BBs is still in it for me). Matt |

Not sure what he thinks on this, but I'll show it against bad players. Against good players I think it just makes it obvious that I'll be stealing a lot, so I'd rather not give anything away.
