Default Re: Finance Forum\'s Stock Contest

the second one on the list is the fund I added . It isn't to be considered here , I just used so I could join the 2+2 club on M .

dumgecko was the persons public page I was checking out when I saw there was a 2 + 2 club over there . He is a fellow m100 member but I don't know anything else . Most likely he is not working this contest either . Perhaps he joined for the same reason I did but Sniper or uglyowl would have to let you guys know about that since I have never seen him post a single word on those forums the entire time he has been a member . :-)

Will this contest be repeated in 2007?

I'd like to participate. Are options allowed? I primarily trade options.

The contest will repeat for 2007... I'll try to prompt UglyOwl to post some kind of an update on where things stand...

Marketocracy ports are setup to look like mutual funds... they actually "compensate" the top performers across the whole site, by adding them to the M100... and actually running a fund based on the collective picks.

So, no option trading, but still a worthwhile place to setup a virtual port.

I'm hoping we pick up a bunch of additional forum participants, before the end of the year.

All right, thanks. I run a small portfolio at the moment, and I would have simply replicated my trades in there, but I'll just replace calls with stock, and puts with shorts and see how I end up

No shorts.

Pain in the ass... A bunch of compliance rules too.

I believe some reasonable margin for the long side is a good idea also. Most traders are using a little prudent leverage here and there.

I'm researching platforms that might be better for 2007, I'll report in a little while.

I believe I have a good shot at winning this for 2006 if things fall my way in next two weeks. Then again, my lack of 'compliance' is always a problem.

I haven't opened the marketocracy site in months, I think since the first day I made trades. I think my 11.2% return is pretty impressive since I only invested 24% of my cash.

My globally diversified 100% stock DFA portfolio is up 23.24% year-to-date after mutual fund expenses:

20% DFLCX DFA US Large Company Portfolio
20% DFLVX DFA US Large Cap Value Portfolio
10% DFSCX DFA US Micro Cap Portfolio
10% DFSVX DFA US Small Cap Value Portfolio
10% DFREX DFA Real Estate Securities Portfolio
10% DFIVX DFA International Value Portfolio
5% DFISX DFA International Small Company Portfolio
5% DISVX DFA International Small Cap Value Portfolio
3% DFEMX DFA Emerging Markets Portfolio
3% DFEVX DFA Emerging Markets Value Portfolio
4% DEMSX DFA Emerging Markets Small Cap Portfolio

This would put me 11th in the list (NAV of 12.32). Pretty good for not making any forecasts, and spending 0 time on it all year.

If you are moving the contest, try to find a place that allows purchase of (open ended) mutual funds so I can play too. :-)

Most of those "portfolio" sites suck. No options, no short, no pennies, no intraday prices. That's where the biggest money is.
