Re: Getting autographs as a kid
[ QUOTE ]
My lowlight was getting snubbed by Jerome Walton after he said he'd give me one in a second. He probably thought he was badass since he was coming off a ROY campaign. At least karma got the best of him, mwahahaha. [/ QUOTE ] Funny you mention Walton. Back in '89, early in the season, I was waiting outside Busch stadium for Mark Grace (along with a million other people, mostly fat, middle-aged dudes with 50 posters they planned on selling). Most of the Cubs players went straight to their bus and ignored us, but one of the players, a tall guy with a nice looking suit but unfamiliar to me, came up and offered to sign my ball. After he left, I looked down and tried to figure out who it was that I just met I still remember checking the morning paper to see if he extended his hit streak. Being 12, I was convinced he was making it to at least 57. I had to settle for ROY and a division title. It took me a while to figure out how lucky I was to be a Cubs fan during the '89 season. Oh BTW, [censored] you Will Clark |
