Default Re: Question about the Film Industry

Okay. I work in the industry, am in the Union, and have thus far won 3 Emmy awards.

I have no degree.

There is no need for a degree in Hollywood. All it will get you is an entry level job as a PA (production assistant). With the right attitude, you can get a PA job anyway.

Get a PA position with a decent production company, and work it from there.

Oh yea, I was never, ever a PA.

My route:

I started in RADIO as a teenage DJ - then moved to TV in 1988 to do sound on GLOW, that led to a job in Hollywood transferring film soundtracks for VHS releases, which led to sound design on Beakman's World and my first Emmy.

Basically, you need to get your foot in the door SOMEWHERE - PA is the usual route unless you already have skills or know someone.
