Default Close to the bubble. Mistake or correct move?

PS 180 man down to 27. Blinds $200-400 and I'm under the gun with a $5800. stack M=7 with pocket 99s. I raise to $1600. and a player that has been aggressive reraises me all in with a stack exactly like mine. I think for awhile and because it is this particular player and he's also getting near desperate too, I call.

Would you have folded leaving yourself with $4200 and the blinds coming next hand? Was my initial raise to large for this situatuon? Thanks

After you made the raise you absolutely must call. If he is a super nit and is only reraising you with the top 4.8% of hands (77+, AK) then you have 41% equity in the hand, definitely enough pot odds for you to call his push.

I do not like your UTG raise. I would have probably gone for a limp-push line here but it looks like you would have still lost this hand.

Is an open push bad here?

Thanks guys, I feel better I called the all in reraise because I could see him reraising with all kinds of hands worse than mine including pairs from 22 to 88 which I had crushed.

I didn't raise all in because I didn't want to play for all my chips if I didn't have to (although that's exactly what ended up happening) and I felt my raise was big enough to scare out marginal hands, high hards that I'd have to beat in a close race. I figured I'd either get folded all around or called and be able to fold on the flop if overcards came and still have a heart beat.

He had pocket KK and busted me. I'm glad to hear that it was something that many if not most thinking players could do. Thanks again.

My mistake, I did not notice he was UTG.
