AFAIK, theyve only found 'traces' of water (ice?). i think there has been life at mars, but no more.

They found traces of flowing water that had to have occured since 1999. They compared new photos to old photos of the same area. Somehow the water managed not to freeze for a while despiste sub-zero temps. They suspect it was contaminated with acid or something like that.

It's been widely believed that there is water beneath the martian surface. We know that water once existed on mars and so it shouldn't be too big of a surprise. It'll be interesting in the next few decades when we send a manned mission to mars. Life forms have been found in some of the harshest enviroments on earth recently giving hope to the possibility of life under the martian surface. Really exciting stuff.
