Floating flops
I notice that some LAG/TAGs and LAGs like to call tight players with air on the flop HU, hoping to steal the pot later on if the TAG shows weakness. Is this ever a valid strategy? Do any of you ever do this?

Re: Floating flops
HU? Define "tight" player. I think if it means what i think it does this is wrong.

Re: Floating flops
This could be valid strategy against a player that cbets flop easily but check/folds turn when UI. And it's only effective when used rarely.

HU? Define "tight" player. I think if it means what i think it does this is wrong. [/ QUOTE ] In this case, a player with TAG stats who may be on a steal or making a position play and is both unlikely to fire the second barrel on the turn with garbage and capable of folding some A high/trash pair hands later on. The pot could be HU from the start, or perhaps tbe rest of the field folded to the LAG on the flop. Basically, I am trying to understand why on earth they do this... whether they are just being loose donks or whether this is a semi-valid way to exploit such a player. |

Re: Floating flops
can you be a little more specific - like position, is this a HU match? What was pf? As a very general question it just sounds like they are playing bad.

[/ QUOTE ] That's really my question... are there specific situations where this strategy would make sense? Does such a play ever belong in a good player's arsenal? I am looking to move a little bit deeper into villain's thought process. I have been seeing the play quite often lately. |

Re: Floating flops
They hope to steal when the TAG shows weakness. See miles' 2nd hand - it's pretty easy for us to exploit this.
they basically see they have SOME kind of outs and try to push you off your hand. Sometimes they get lucky. The thing is this. You are a TAG and open. It really isn't correct for me to be cold calling you. MAYBE if there are a bunch of other players and you open UTG, EVERYBODY cc's and want to see a flop with 55 then ok. But HU? This guy is putting in 3 SB's to see 4 cards, has no initiative and apparently 0 information about our hand. While the rest of the time their play is predictable enough that we can see his hand pretty easily. If they are giving you trouble just tighten up a bit until you adjust. If they don't change their play and you change yours things favor you immediatly just remember that. |
