When I show up to a house party and see something like this I know that I don't want to play there. In my experience people who do stuff like that take the game way too seriously and ruin the fun for everyone else.

we always play that you have to make 2 shots into the same cup in order to negate a rebuttal.

So if there is one cup left, and each of you make it then game over. If there are two cups left and you each make one, the other team removes the first cup you made, then both you and your partner get a chance to make the last cup again. If either of you do, game over, if not, the other team gets a rebuttal. I like it this way because rebuttals are fun.

of course the answer is are you playing during a party or not? if so, rules should be interpreted loosely and games not taken seriously. if it's just guys playing on a sunday or something, the game can and should be taken more seriously.

4 cups on our side of the table, 2 on the opposite. my partner sinks a cup and I sink the last cup. do we get the balls back to kill the opposing team's rebuttal? if so, does only one of us have to resink the last cup or both?

[/ QUOTE ]

this varies. I think it's really gay when people play the "if you sink one then your partner does it's game over" rule. Basically it's for women. In 6 cup if this is done then you get to choose a teammate to take one shot to end it. 10 cup both get balls back. 15 and 21 cup have other rules, but you didnt ask about those

2 balls in 1 cup=over. Opportunities for rebuttal are always fun.

The way we play is, If you only have 2 cups left to sink and you both sink them on that turn it's game over. No rebuttal for the other team because you would get the balls back.

EDIT: - but everyone has there own rules so I would suggest just making up some general house rules for this.

I've played both ways. Generally, I prefer to have rebuttal options if there are two cups left and both are hit (game over obv if both players hit only one remaining cup). Depends on house rules...

At Stanford our tournament rules for this are:

"If the last two cups are hit in a single turn, ONE BALL is sent back to give the winning team a chance to "ice it." If this shot is made, game over. If missed, rebuttal proceeds as usual."

Cheers!
