Default 99 hand

\This looked like he either made his straight or he was value betting his J on the river.

What does he donk with when a brick falls?

I think you played the hand well up to the river.

I think he is value betting a better hand than ours most of the time. However, with more than 7 big bets in the pot I think a crying call would be profitable here.

Yeah I think I goofed on the river, I'm trying to find a place for some folds and this was the wrong spot.

I play bad when tired.

I don't think he has 97 when you have 2 9s, or 74...weird hands. So it is unlikely that 5 helped his hand, unless he had pockets 5s.

Is this some sort of wa/wb play your opponent is doing? You raise UTG, he puts you on either AK/AQ or a big-medium pocket pair. 32x times AK/AQ and ~30-36x times a pocket pair. He has some pocket pair and figures he's good 50% of the time. I don't know, it's weird anyhow. I'm wondering if you should raise and fold to a 3 bet. Thought I doubt he will lay down jacks, and those still make most sense. JT or something. Do you think he is b/f-ing? Anyhow if he has 7s you still win with a call. Enough doubt here, call. Consider a raise.

I would insta-call in this spot. Too many busted draws ( [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] draw, SD, overcard draw) could be played like this. The river is a must-call.

I don't think this is a value bet of a J. I think he would have bet the flop and hope you raise to help protect his hand. No?

A straight, would he have A) called a raiser with 4,7 or 7,9 even suited, and then B) called a gutshot to the river? Not that this is impossible, but probably not.

I would have to call the bet as it is too fishy and you are getting 6.20:1 on the call. IF he has you beat I would say it is A6s, or a possible full house.

Good luck,
Mygtar

Question: is limping in UTG pre-flop bad here?

Playing a weak J this way is possible, and not a terrible line. Even if you think "I would never play it that way" someone else could have a different view and apply WA/WB to the situation. Still, I would call on the end and expect to pick off a bluff (or a "value-bet" with a worse two pair) often enough.

Yes.

I agree with calling the river. You'll see a bluff or an 8 enough to make the call profitable.
