Re: What will OSU-Fla spread be?
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] the coaching edge in this game is huge [/ QUOTE ] Anyone who saw the 3rd quarter of the SEC Championship game, (ya know, the one that turned on that ridiculous muffed punt) knows that Urban Meyer is largely outmatched vs. Tressel.....BIG advantage buckeyees [/ QUOTE ] Proclaiming this based on one Q is idiotic. You don't *know* who is better, you merely have an opinion, which is fine. Meyer is a perfectly good coach, Tressel is his equal or perhaps a tad bit better. Pretending otherwise is ridiculous. Every team/coach needs luck. 2001 Miami need to pick off BC in the final minute to seal their win and eventual title. OSU needed end-of-game comebacks in 4 seperate games, including v woeful Cinci to win their title. Texas got help last year from Reggie Bush's horrid lateral and Carroll's horrid coaching decisions. And Carroll was supposedly a genius having won 30+ in a row. If the spread is 8, how much of that is due to Tressel's coaching, in your opinion? |

1 to 1.5 points for Tressel being on the sideline [/ QUOTE ] 6.5 moves to 8 pts? No way. Maybe against Bob Davie. Larry Coker was a 'genius' too, until last year. Maybe Tressel will win every big game and prove me wrong, but everyone has an off night, no matter how stupendous they supposedly are. He did lose 17-10 to PSU last year with no second-half points, right? They were #6 and favored so where did the in-game adjustments and coaching magic go? How many points is Paterno worth more than Tressel? With more titles he's gotta be worth more, right - that seems to be the main argument. |

Re: What will OSU-Fla spread be?
Don't want to get into discussion who's better but there's no denying Tressel is very good at putting (recruiting) the team together and planning for game. From the look of it, he does the offensive play-calling during game too, don't know enough about Fla to know if Meyer do this.

Re: What will OSU-Fla spread be?
I'd have to think that any advantage Tressel has is magnified by having forever and a day before the game. One of his strengths is adapting to the opponent (see the 1st half v. Michigan, where OSU went spread and torched them before Michigan adjusted at halftime) and coming up with a gameplan that exploits weakness.

Re: What will OSU-Fla spread be?
Would Florida have been as good this year if Ron Zook was still there?
If a team can improve that dramatically from one head-coach to another then is it logical that one team's advantage over another team via their head-coach could be really significant? (seriously asking...not really sure of the answer myself). |

Re: What will OSU-Fla spread be?
[ QUOTE ]
the coaching edge in this game is huge [/ QUOTE ] Let's see the records of each team Fla beat LSU who killed ND lost to Auburn who beat Nebraska beat Ark at Ark who lost by 3 beat Kentucky who beat Clemson beat SoCar who beat Houston beat SoMiss who killed Ohio beat Georgia who beat VaTech beat FSU who beat UCLA that's 7-1. OSU beat PSU who beat Auburn beat Mich by 3 who was killed by UCLA beat Wisky who beat Ark. Minny lost Purdue got killed Iowa lost those teams went 2-4. Which conf was better again? Hope that Tressel magic coaching fairy-dust works for him. I doubt he'll get the hugely Big10 biased refs he got in the 2003 Fiesta Bowl. |
