There is a poster in MicroNL and SSNL with the location: I coach minesweeper. PM for details. Is that ok or not?

Ed, that's a joke. I think it's fine. He mentioned in the cheese thread once that he actually got some inquiries.

I happened to see that one in a post he made in the Zoo, yesterday, and I changed it to "I coach minesweeper."

My reasoning was that it was obviously a way to make the reader look at his Profile in which there is a link to his commercial website. Admittedly, it was a clever way. (It made me look, and I don't even want coaching in minesweeper.)

If others wanting readers to look at their Profiles see that one being allowed, I can imagine all sorts of clever comments being used in the future, getting closer and closer to "the line", and making our jobs that little bit more difficult.

If it was a joke, (which it wasn't), it could have stopped at "I coach minesweeper." It was definitely a deliberate attempt at circumventing the rule that posters must not attempt to make readers look at their Profiles. The fact that he pm-ed a mod about it adds final proof to this assertion, imo.

Mike,

I PMed him when he changed it to be about poker.

He asked if that was still ok.

The origin of that was about 3 months ago when the poster went on a downswing and took a break and played minesweeper. He thought he was good and it was a joke. It wasnt some clever ruse to get people to look in his profile, and he had asked me after he changed if that was still ok. I wasnt sure so I asked.

Thank you.

Then I stand corrected about motive in his case.

However, I still think that "I coach minesweeper" is the "joke" and that the "PM for details" is entirely superfluous. Allowing it to remain could potentially create a (minor) problem for mods in other copycat cases where the motives might be in dispute.

(I'm not trying to make a big deal of it, and yesterday I merely changed the Loc as described, made a Note, and moved on to look for hard porn links, or "fatty" comments about Greg Raymer in NVG. If I hadn't seen your coincidental post, above, I wouldn't have thought about it again.)
