Default Mesquite Nevada Poker/Golf/Hotel

We are looking to head to Mesquite to play a lot of golf and a little poker the first week of April.

Can anyone recommend a couple courses to play, I would say $100 or less per person?

Any decent card rooms?

What hotel/casino would you recommend?

Thank you in advance.

Peace,

KennyBanya

It's been a while since I've stopped in Mesquite, but the Oasis had a pretty decent golf course. For a great golf course, Entrada (located in St. George - about a 40 minute drive from Mesquite) is magnificent.

I stayed and played one night at the Oasis in Mesquite last August. It was kind of a dump. The facilities were run down and most of the people were geriatrics. The poker room is nothing special and was spreading two tables of 4-8. Most of the players were local nits and drunks, although it was midweek so I imagine it is busier on weekends. The play was very loose pre-flop and decent to bad post-flop. I personally wouldn't go back there, although I csn't speak for any of the other Mesquite properties.

Sounds like the Oasis kind of blows. Does anyone know if the Casablanca is decent?

Thanks,

If you are looking for a Vegas strip type resort, you won't get it in Mesquite. I think Casablanca is the newest hotel there, so probably the nicest. I have stayed at the Oasis and Virgin River in the past (it's been over 10 years), and from what I recall the Oasis was ok (could have gotten run down by now), the rooms at the Virgin river were more like motel than hotel rooms. The casinos are similar to smaller off strip joints. The golf courses there were decent, but the courses both in Vegas and St. George (Entrada, Greensprings, and a couple of others) are superior.

Hey Kenny,

I go there a lot, but have been comped every time I've golfed, (shameless brag).

The Wolf Creek course is the best, but I think it runs over $100. The Oasis course is pretty decent, and it may be cheaper.

As far as rooms, the Casablanca Hotel is the nicest hotel, but it doesn't have poker. No worries, across the street is the Oasis. Not a big poker room, and mostly a rock garden. They do have daily $15 nl tourneys + one $15 rebuy that are a lot of fun. They start at 11 in the morning.

The Eureka also has a little poker room, and a decent Saturday afternoon tourney.

P.S. I don't know if you are into it, but on Friday and Saturday nights, they have some free comedians in the Casablanca showroom. They are pretty good, plus it's free, and it keeps you away from the craps table for a couple of hours.

Good luck.

I always have a good time when I go to Mesquite. Stay at the Casablanca, walk across the street to play poker at the Oasis. They also have a decent sports bar at the Oasis. Casablanca has a great spa, and in the summer a great pool area. Golf is fun, and there's horseback riding up there too. Relax and enjoy. Oh, their sportsbooks have highly exploitable lines as well. I once was able to bet two dimes on an even money bet that was about -250 at the time at Pinnacle.

I always do this too (even though I can get my room at Oasis for free, I prefer to pay to stay at Casablanca and play at Oasis).

On a side note: One time I was staying at Casablanca and had about 4 large in my front pocket as I was walking over to the Oasis to gamble (by the 18-wheel trucks and the McDonalds) when out from the bushes where I'm walking, the bushes start shaking as if someone is about to jump me.

I turn around more then a little concerned....... out comes 5 ducks walking out of the bushes all in a row to meet the Nevada sunrise.

Mesquite rocks!

Best Wishes

Howard

You aren't kidding.

If you must stay at the Oasis, make sure you do not get a room with frontage on the I-15 (west) side, or you will not get any sleep with the big trucks rumbling throughout the night.
