Brokeback Mountain (spoiler questions inside)
I saw Brokeback last night, it was hands down the best movie I saw in the past year. I have a few questions which remains unanswered, I'd like OOT's help in asnwering them for me.
1) Did either guys know they were gay prior to arriving on Brokeback Mountain? The opening scene makes me think that both may have had latent homosexual feelings that they were not capable of expressing 2) Did Jack's father have him killed? Did his wife know he was murdered when she was on the phone? 3) Anyone know where I can get a copy of the original short story? Did Ang Lee option the film, or was he selected to direct it? Thanks in advance... TT [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] |

Re: Brokeback Mountain (spoiler questions inside)
1) No, don't think so.
2) No, don't think so. No, don't think so. Maybe? 3) Amazon. I think the screenplay is like $10 and has the short story included as well. As you can see, I don't know much more than you. |

Re: Brokeback Mountain (spoiler questions inside)
I can only answer #2:
I think it's intentionally ambiguous how Jack died, but my interpretation is that the visual flash of him getting gay-bash-killed is the truth. Jack became increasingly more open about his sexuality over the years (cruising in Mexico, hitting on random straight dudes, etc.) and it's believable that some gay-bashers just caught up to him. Also, the way Anne Hathaway played the scene on the phone delivering the news to Ennis, it seemed like a rehearsed lie she had told several people, not wanting to let on how Jack died. I don't see any reason to believe Jack's father had anything to do with it. |

Re: Brokeback Mountain (spoiler questions inside)
I have no desire to see a movie about gays, but the sweeping good reviews have me curious about it.

Re: Brokeback Mountain (spoiler questions inside)
The question I had after watching it was, why didn't they market the fact there was female nudity? I was pretty surprised that the Princess Diaries girl took her top off.

Re: Brokeback Mountain (spoiler questions inside)
To answer your questions, No it doesnt mean you're gay just because you thought it was such a great movie. Unless of course, while you were watching the greasy man loving scenes your little pilly moved. Only you can answer that question....

Here's the answer: they're all fags. QED. [/ QUOTE ] I only opened this thread because I saw that istewart had responded. I was curious as to what the odds were that his reply would be something around these lines. I decieded it would be about 6-1 that he would respond in this manner. I just wish I would have had a taker. |

Re: Brokeback Mountain (spoiler questions inside)
1) Jack was more aggressively gay the entire time, whereas Ennis seemed to repress his own feelings to a much greater extent. So I'd say Jack knew, Ennis didn't.
2) The gay bashing death is Heath Ledger imagining what really happened to Jack. The tire iron beating, similar to how he described the old men getting beaten to death in his childhood, kind of gives that away. But Anne Hathaway's rehearsed tone does leave the question open as to what really happened. 3) No idea. |
