ya... both teams scored a combined 24 points in the final minute of the game. kill me plz F U |

Re: Worst loss on a bet you made ever
I had that one too, PHI 2h +3.5 +100, which was +20.5 for the game.
The UCLA/NWU 2h under last year has to take the cake. The last 2:30 of the game featured an NWU TD, UCLA returning an onside kick for a TD, an NWU TD, and then UCLA returning another onside kick for a TD. |

Re: Worst loss on a bet you made ever
In the 2000 NFC Championship game, I had a rather large parlay on the Giants (over Minnesota) and the over 41.5.
Very early in the 2nd half, the Giants' kicker hit the upright on a FG attempt, with the score 41-0. And that would be the final score. |

Re: Worst loss on a bet you made ever
HUGE HUGE BET on Tigers last regular season game AGAINST THE ROYALS.
Tigers need to win the game to win the division. Tigers take lead 6-0. Royals come all the way back and take the lead 8-7. In the bottom of the 8th....Sean Casey hits a homerun to tie it!!!!! EXTRA INNINGS NOW Tigers have HAVE BASES LOADED 1 OUT.....They don't score Kenny Rogers comes in and gives up 2 runs TO THE ROYALS. BEAT - He goes on in the playoffs and pitches like 3 STRAIT COMPLETE GAME SHUTOUTS Vs THE YANKEES AND A's. KILL ME NOW |

Re: Worst loss on a bet you made ever
In 2002 the office I worked in ran a "survival" pool where the participants each picked one team to win outright each week, with the caveat that you could not use more than one team each week. The pool had over 150 participants and was worth about $7500 (winner take all).
Towards the end of the season, there were only about 10 of us left. I looked at the schedule and at my available teams and mapped out my strategy for the last few weeks. Each of my picks that I pre-selected won...except for one. This game prevented me from going 17-0 and winning the pool: http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/recap?gid=20021208023 Highlights: PITTSBURGH (AP) -- The Houston Texans were so outgained, so overwhelmed, so inept offensively, they set an NFL record for futility. Yet on a Sunday of one-sided numbers rarely seen in an NFL game -- the Pittsburgh Steelers had 24 first downs to the Texans' 3 and outgained them 422-47 -- the most remarkable was on the scoreboard. Texans 24, Steelers 6. |

Re: Worst loss on a bet you made ever
Many years ago, you couldn't bet on one soccer match if you put bad Scottish games in the bet.
A friend and I got a tip for a bad Scottish game from a low division that was either rigged, or just wrongly priced (We never asked questions like that). We spent the whole day scouring the rest of the coupon for a 'certain' bet to parlay with it and found one we liked the look of. We ended up betting it (Don't ask why we didnt bet all three options.. Gamboo is good.). The Scottish game won easily but the English one was snowed off (Those who live here will understand the irony in that alone) and played again the next week. We won on the English bet and went to collect our parlay. Sadly, the English game wasn't played within the required <x> days for action to stand, and any parlay reducing to a single bet was no action (In years before that one, it was a common ploy to pick a deliberate no-action game with an action game to get a single bet on games where it wasn't allowed). Hence, both teams won and we got our stake back. (So technically not a loss, but I suspect telling me that at the time wouldn't have gone down very well) Lori |

Re: Worst loss on a bet you made ever
I don't remember the amount and it was over 15 years ago so I don't remember the exact details other than the fact that I had the Denver Broncos and had the game in the bag when Elway stepped into the endzone and was sacked for a safety with about 10 seconds left in the game that cost me the cover. I think that was the FIRST time I threw up over a bet, it sure wasn't the last.

Re: Worst loss on a bet you made ever
2002 NBA Eastern Conference semis Game 3 I believe. I had the Nets on the money line at boston at +180. They had a 21 point lead going into the 4th, and then made the biggest collapse in NBA playoff history.

Re: Worst loss on a bet you made ever
"worst beat ever"
This didnt happen to me but a friend of mine years ago.I dont remember all the exact details but it went something like this. My friend bets on team X (-6.5) .the game is tied when team X scores with next to no time left. But after the guy scores the TD the fans run on to the field and rip the goal posts down. They call the game without attempting the extra point! |
