Lessons I learned in Vegas

Well, I just got back from my first trip to Vegas since I've turned 21. I had a very fun time, but not very exciting or out of the ordinary I think. So instead of making some lame trip report with little poker content, I decided to make a short list of some lessons I learned from making mistakes in Vegas. Even though some of these are quite fun mistakes, I think I could have been better without them. Feel free to make additions.

1) Don't get completely over the line can't remember anything hammered on the first night.
2) Don't go to the strip club when your drunk and have a lot of cash.
3) Don't max bet 9 lines on slots with limited funds.
4) Don't drive home to LA on a Sunday evening after a holiday.
5) Don't split a small room with 5 other guys.
6) Don't try to stick together with a big group the whole time.
7) Make some plans.
8) Play more poker.

I think numbers 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 8 are patently obvious, common sense, "my schnauzer would know this" sorta things. Numbers 6 and 7 my schnauzer would probably have to experience once to learn not to repeat. Well, ok, maybe number 8, too, though he's always been really fond of that dogs-playing-poker painting so I think he'd know about number 8 without first screwing it up.

i would also add just dont go to the strip club at all, hit up the $5 club next to casino royale and ure sure to find something easy, and if not, your local pro can assist you for the same price as it would be to go to the strip club.

Also, I'd add dont bring valley kids with you, in my experience they just cant handle vegas and they always want to leave sunday morning.

One more... sign up for the players card in Primm valley, they send u free Sun-thurs night rooms all the time without even playing. On Sunday stay in vegas till 10-11pm, then roll to primm, hit up some 2-6 spread limit, crash, and bounce back to LA early morning.

You're right, I wasn't ready to handle that. I'll join Rottersod's crusade quick once I'm 45+. In fact most of these are results of going with too many people, most of whom don't play poker. I would have done better alone or with a single poker playin buddy, and automatically that would eliminate 1, 2, 5, 6, and 8. I knew most of these would be bad decisions before I even went, but I wasn't really mentally there to stop myself? Damn peer pressure...

Next Vegas trip, I am making at least some loose plans for each day. I'll get my own room or at least my own bed, try to pick up some ladies at a club that I can get down with. Play lots of poker and blackjack. Save some of my party power for each night. Pretty much plan most of my trip from 2+2. But this time like I mentioned I went with so many friends, I knew most of them weren't gonna be having any of that. Next time I'll be ready to hang with the big dogs, or little schnauzers.

I disagree with #2. The only things worse are going when drunk and broke, or going when sober.

I definately agree with your no strip club rule. In fact I don't even like to visit strip clubs locally, but most of my friends prefer otherwise. I always imagined I would have a good chance to pick up some easy party chic at one of the many clubs there. I'll check out the $5 club you mention.

Sunday night stay in Primm sounds like a very good idea. We ended up stopping here going each direction anyway, but didn't visit casinos. If I don't fly next time I will definately use this plan. Thanks.
