MyTurn\'s NCAAB picks
first bets of the year
Illinois -4 v Maryland I got some in at -3 (2 units at -105) and -4 (1/2 unit at -108) and think this is good to -5 Maryland/Illinois U142.5 (1 unit at -107) The best kept secret in college bball is Illinois is a slow-down team and has been for quite some time. In Ken Pomeroy's possession stats, they are always about 290th in possessions/game. Sure, the Illini are pretty effective on the offensive end, but their defense is always stingy. They are an under machine. Maryland's been known to push up the tempo, but they'll struggle to do that tonight unless they want 6 players to foul out. You just cannot play a press for any substantial amount of time at a Big10 road venue. Illinois looks really good, coming off a great weekend verse Miami (Oh) and Bradley. It looks like Jamar Smith will be full speed and he is what makes the offense go. Maryland is stepping into a road environment unlike any other. There is no bigger home court advantage than Champaign when the fans expect a big game. The last two opponents to play at Champaign in the Acc/Big10 challenge both came in rated in the top 6 and playing excellent ball. Both left after being thoroughly dominated and not even competitive by halftime. I expect 70-55 score. |

oh yeah, I think I was 4-6 on NCAAB last season...I'll look it up for sure, but it wasn't good.

Re: MyTurn\'s NCAAB picks
I grabbed some Ill -3 last night as it fit the unranked vs ranked trend. I see it at -4.5 now at most places. I hope your analysis is correct. Last year was my first losing year with this trend so I hope it turns back around this year.

Re: MyTurn\'s NCAAB picks
Arizona -7.5 v Illinois -104 to win 5 units
played in Phoenix, AZ The latest out of Illinois camp is that, in addition to the continued absence of Brian Randle, Jamar Smith will not play and Chester Frazier will be 20 minutes at most due to ankle injuries. Freshman Richard Semrau also didn't make the trip unexpectedly. The rotation is not near deep enough to handle Arizona's tempo. Arizona's true freshman, whose name escapes me now, is also a match-up nightmare for an Randle-less Illini team, similar to the way Peavy of Miami (OH) scorched Illinois. |

Arizona -7.5 v Illinois -104 to win 5 units played in Phoenix, AZ [/ QUOTE ] Arizona 84 Illinois 72 WIN terrible pick by me....but worse refereeing The Illini pwned Arizona up and down the court until the striped men got involved. The Cats, the less agressive team, got a 31-13 foul advantage and 36 to 9 FT advantage. Games like these remind me to never believe in the integrity of sports. 2-1 NCAAB ytd +3.36 units |
