400 play money chips got me laid only ten days ago.

They are not worthless if you know how to use them correctly.

I used to go over my friends house and his dad was always on the family computer playing poker. I thought it was pretty cool til I found out he was playing with play money. Apparently he has a huge roll in play money, but refuses to play for real money because he doesn't trust the sites with deposits.

I started out on Party playing the play money tables. I played about 4 nights a week for 3 months. First my goal was to beat the sit n go's on a regular basis. Then I went to NLHE to build my "roll" to $1M. Then I found an ad on 2+2 for a free $50 roll. I built it to $100 and then used Homer's Build a bankroll system. Haven't looked back and never used my own money. Play money was "fun" when I first got started. But I would never go back to play money. The rush is much better when it's REAL money.

I guess people play on the play money tables for the same reason some people play games on Xbox, Playstation, etc.

My roommate plays the play money games on Stars all the time. I've never explicitly asked why, but I assume it's because he's broke and sucks at poker.

How I got started in online poker:
After doing a simple internet search for online years ago, I came across a blog or something that said that if you can't build up your play money up to $65M, then you won't be able to cut it with real money. I knew "what beats what," but didnt know how to play pokere. I built up my play money roll to $17M on party over a few months of fooling around a couple nights a week, then realized I was a play money shark. I didnt want to be a play money shark all my life, and I thought $65M was rediculous. So I deposited $200, and haven't looked back since.

A friend sold 1m play chips on PS in late 2001 for $50, and turned it into a few grand. I'd like to say he hasn't depositted since, but he's up at least.
