Replacement for AVG?
I've been using AVG Free for several years and now I get a popup that I'll have to start paying in January.
Bad timing by their marketing department, since for the past couple of months a series of odd problems all point to AVG. It kills my Eudora Pro e-mail program, which then has to be uninstalled, completely deleted from the system, and reinstalled. Both systems also frequently wake up dead in the morning with an AVG update screen in the middle of the screen. It just took me two hours to get my poker system running, again, killed overnight by an AVG update. So, given my recent history with AVG, and since I'm going to have to pay for a virus program, should I stick with AVG, or start over? |

Re: Replacement for AVG?
i recommend Nod32 as it's also low-resource and just as effective imo...

You won't have to pay for AVG. That pop says they're going to stop supporting the old version with updates and links you to a page for the pay version of the new 7.5.430. You can still get the free version of 7.5.430 here. [/ QUOTE ] no more definition updates is almost as bad as deactivating the program. Would you want a healthcare plan that pays for polio & smallpox vaccine but not some new miracle HIV vaccine? |

New version is still free and gets regular updates. |

gotcha. so a NEW release of AVG Free is coming out in january. [/ QUOTE ] Damn I suck at writing. The current version of AVG is still functioning and receiving updates. But the updates will stop in January, as Grisoft is phasing out that version of AVG. Right now, you can download the current version of AVG (it's available now, no waiting until January) for free, which also gets, and will continue to get, regular updates. |
