Re: Investment Banking Major
[ QUOTE ]
Best Undergraduate Business Programs Rank/School Peer assessment score ( 5.0 = highest) 1. University of Pennsylvania (Wharton) 4.8 2. Massachusetts Inst. of Technology (Sloan) 4.6 3. University of California–Berkeley (Haas) * 4.5 University of Michigan–Ann Arbor * 4.5 This is from the US News and World Report 2007. I don't get why my school should preclude me. My grades perhaps, but UM-AA seems to be up there. [/ QUOTE ] I don' t think its that your education's gonna be bad, its that you won't make the necessary connections really. From what I've heard, the Ivy League has like a direct pipeline into investment banking and a lot of firms go there to look for job applicants first. Not that it can't be done, but its gonna be a lot harder since you don't know people. |

Re: Investment Banking Major
I go to Iowa and seven of my close friends (seniors) have already accepted offers in IB this fall... out of hundreds of kids in the business school here, there are plenty others, from Iowa and other "lesser" schools. Iowa ? Ivy League
I'ma go ahead and say most of the posters here don't know wtf they are talking about |

Re: Investment Banking Major
I am a junior at UT Austin and I am a MIS major. I wanted to do IB for a long time till I found out more information about it. Starting out working 80-110 hours a week does not seem worth it to me. Sure it is good money, but there are a lot of other jobs that pay well. IB can be very stressful as well.
The majority of students that I know who are going into IB have intense connections, high GPA (3.7+), and are very involved with organizations. My advice would be to try and get an internship this summer which will help with you making connections and establishing if IB is for you. |

Re: Investment Banking Major
If a bank comes to your school to recruit by holding an info session, going to the career fair, and conducting on campus interviews, you've got as good a chance as anyone. They may not come out with as many full timers from a trip to Iowa than a trip to Harvard, but you've still got a chance.
That said, theben's comments are what I would agree with most to this point. |
