Default Calling two bets before the flop w/ Pocket Pair

I have a general question. Say you raise 55 UTG 5 or 6 handed (6 this is a fold for me a bunch) and behind you the CO and Button 3-bet and cap, what is the play supposing that it is folded to you? If you throw in another caller, you'd be getting 6-1 on calling the 2, so I think that makes the call pretty easy. With just two players though, is 4-1 enough?

I usually do call in these situations because they are pretty easy to play postflop [no set, no bet]. Since you are already getting 4:1 [and you are what, like 7.5:1 to flop a set?] I think you'll make up more than you need to make it correct postflop in a 3 way capped pot.

I think it's close - but I really lean towards folding in this situation - especially if my opponents are tags or play reasonably postflop. If it's maniacs we're up against then I like the call. You also have to figure that we don't always win when we flop a set, so I think with 4 players in it's a call and with 3 it's a fold in MOST cases.

Depends on the players but I think I USUALLY call. The only people I don't want to play with here are very passive players and here's my thinking: one of these playes probably has a good hand and will pay off to the river if you flop a set. Being aggressive, they will probably put in extra bets with overpairs even if they are clearly bet whereas passives will just call you down if you scare them. In most online shorthanded games, I think a call is fine here - just get out if you don't flop a set or an OESD.

This is my logic too usually. With 4 players and 6-1 its a no brainer, but otherwise I tend to fold more often than not.

I run into this spot consistently when I'm in the big blind and there is a raise and a 3 bet from two players, and its not a steal/resteal situation involving a combination of CO, button, and SB. With 77s in the BB and an UTG raise and a reraise and tend to just fold. Unless the manaic, tilt factor kicks in.
