Re: 50/100 Big laydown
If you play JJ like this I'm pretty sure he has a great bluff spot on the turn when you c/c and check (i.e. on this board you're folding all your non-set hands, which has to be like 75%+ of your range). Even if he's a preflop nit he'd also have to be a pretty mediocre player to not pick up on this, unlikely for a 50/100 regular, not that I play this high.
edit: i probably worry too much about having exploitable tendencies, if you don't think he's ever bluffing this turn your play is obviously fine, he's not valuebetting worse. |

Raise the flop [/ QUOTE ] Why? I guess this is decent againest an unknown if we are going to c/fold the turn. It makes the hand much easier to play but I believe costing us some in EV. |

[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] if hes that big of a nit its fine, but really he HAS to be a big nit. [/ QUOTE ] is his range really that small to fire the 2nd barrel after you showed no interest in the flop? is there anything wrong w/ just calling the turn also? keeps the pot relatively smaller and you're probably ahead here a lot. or you could just do what EM2 said and raise the flop but if he slams you on the turn that sucks too. [/ QUOTE ] If he calls our flop raise i dont think we're betting the turn unless we're intending to a call a push. Most likely we'd checkfold though. [/ QUOTE ] yeah i think calling the turn bet is pretty thin considering the flop action is pretty undefined. say you are ahead here.. if he pushes the river i dont think i could call if it were me.. so i guess raising the flop and playing from there is best. |

Re: 50/100 Big laydown
Does anything worse call a flop raise? Seems like an expensive bluff.
I'd consider lead/fold before I considered some of the other lines being mentioned here. |

Re: 50/100 Big laydown
What flop are you waiting for with JJ 5 handed? I think this is a check call on the turn, as he can easily have 10x or a hand like AK that wants to get a low pair or 89 out. I think you call here and call the river. You are only at 120bb or so, so you can't be afraid to go broke here. If you are playing JJ for set value 5 handed, I think its a -ev play.

Re: 50/100 Big laydown
i don't really mind it; if he's a big nit you're beating like AT and nothing else
seems like a lot of people are oversimplifying this to "ZOMG YOU HAVE AN OVERPAIR" is pot / pot / pot a standard line for him? any showdowns, etc? |

Re: 50/100 Big laydown
hate it. What kind of "nit" who plays 50-100 is incapable of betting the flop and turn without a hand. Just seems crazy to me to let someone have a pot when you have an overpair just because they are willing to follow through on the turn.

Raise the flop [/ QUOTE ] What's the point in this against a nit? Might aswell do this with air. |
