I love the UK office, but it had 12 episodes. I would not consider it an all time great.

Da Ali G show fall under the same category for me.

Ye the Mona Lisa is like one foot by two feet and people call it a master piece what’s up with that? If a picture isn’t at least 6 by 10 it can’t make my list.
Booth shows you mention ran for two series. Id say two series of tightly written funny shows beats several series where the episodes are of variable quality.

[/ QUOTE ]

Horrible analogy.
If you compared the 12 best episodes of the Simpsons, South Park, Seinfeld, etc. To The Office most people would consider the first three to be better.

[/ QUOTE ]

Most people have bad taste, then.

Anyway, contrary to your post it's easy to get 12 great episodes out of 100+. To make 12 and only 12 episodes that are consistently brilliant is a much greater feat.

The absolute funniest show ever made is: Trailer Park Boys

It's a Canadian show. Download some episodes and get ready to pee.

It's a british comedy that ran back in the 1970s for 12 episodes. It's about a dysfunctional hotel run by Basil Fawlty (John Cleese).

I don't want to spoil it, you can read more at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fawlty_towers

The whole DVD series costs $29.97 on Amazon.

My top 3 are

1. Seinfeld
2. Trailer Park Boys
3. The Simpsons

I don't laugh out loud very often at sitcoms, but Seinfeld did it for me probably 9 of 10 shows. I still laugh at some of the re-runs I've seen 7 or 8 times. The Trailer Park Boys had me giggling uncontrollably in bed 3 nights after I watched the episode. The Simpsons made me laugh quite often back in the early 90's but I kind of grew tired of it.

Kids in the Hall
Benny Hill

select episodes of SNL from the early to mid nineties

Daily Show w/ Craig Kilborn, and to a lesser extent Jon Stewart (although topical humor isn't really something that stands up over time)

Giligan's Island ain't bad

[/ QUOTE ]
Craig Kilborn wasn't even close to funny on the old Daily show, Jon Stewart does a far funnier show. And as far as longevity, this is its 10th year running.

Arrested Development(AMAZING writing with all of the continuing jokes and references to old episodes, and all the puns)
Curb
The Office
Scrubs (reminds me of a nonanimated family guy randomness)
It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia (hope it keeps up at the same pace. "Oh, this is classic Tammy!")

Honorable Mentions:
South Park (some amazing ones that have me tearing but too often just crappy and boring plots or subplots w/out Cartman or Butters)

Family Guy(would have been up there before this season but there have been some signs of slowing down, especially this last one)

King of Queens( Jerry Stiller and Kevin James are both great)

Seinfeld (Still havent seen all the episodes but so far I think Curb is much better)

Get Smart was one of the most awesome and funny shows ever.

How could I forget this one. No idea if I would still find it as funny as I did when I was a kid, but I used to love it.

It does seem like all the best episodes of this show are centered around Cartman/Butters and occasionally Randy Marsh(like the superb "The Losing Edge"). Another exception to the rule is Ass-pen. Hmmm, now that I think about it, the best episodes center around Cartman, Butters and/or Montages.
