No offense taken at all...quite the opposite, I thought I was the one coming across nitty. Thanks for giving me an excuse to validate why I still have ancient IRC logs lol. I think I've searched/used old logs like 3 times in the past 10 years.

I say buy a £20 chepo DVD player that can play DivX/Xvid files. Then burn your avi files as a data DVD. You can fit many hours of Avi on to 1 DVD(4.7GB) and the DVD/Divx player will play them fine. I get 6 or 7 full Avi movies on 1 DVD!!
