Poker in L.A.
Hi
I am arriving in LA in a few weeks time, from the UK. I need some where to stay with a good poker room attached preferably close to the airport so I can while away the 24hrs until my friend lands and the holiday begins. Any suggestions? |

Re: Poker in L.A.
LA is a very large city. The poker clubs are typically located in the more dangerous parts of the city. I would consider getting a hotel in the Airport area or the Beach cities. Rent a car to drive to the poker clubs. Do not even think about paying for cabs as they are expensive and unreliable. If you are not familiar with Los Angeles, request a satellite navigation device from your rental car company. They charge a few dollars a day, but will be well worth it for your trip.
Most clubs are within 1/2 hour drive during non peak drive time (peak drivetimes are generally but not limited to 7-10AM and 3-7PM) Good luck and have some fun. |

Re: Poker in L.A.
You could consider staying one night at the Crown Plaza that is attached to the Commerce Casino. It's about a half hour from the airport if traffic is light. More otherwise.

Re: Poker in L.A.
Definately Crowne Plaza at Commerce Casino, hands down.
Several reasons: 1. It is the only LA Casino with a hotel attached (and a pretty nice hotel, too). 2. It sounds like this is only a one night situation so driving around doesn't not sound like something you want to do. Commerce is a one stop shop for you. Hotel, poker, and good cheap food. 3. Poker rate. $89 weekends and $109 weekdays. Just ask any floorman to reduce your rate after you checkin, and he can do it over the radio. Also, it is close enough to the airport, and is great action in general. It is worth it to check out the "largest poker room in the world" at least once. Good luck! |

Re: Poker in L.A.
Is that right? The poker rate is lower on weekends than weekdays?

Re: Poker in L.A.
Yes, that is right. Unlike Vegas, the Crowne Plaza actually slows down on weekends, as it is a business traveler hotel. The casino is busier on weekends, obviously, but the core of Crowne Plaza is still business travelers, which are more of a weekday group.

I stayed there for about a month straight. It's a great place and all you have to do is go downstairs and play. You'll like it for sure

Re: Poker in L.A.
There is a Radisson hotel (4star) thats pretty cheap (100-130/night) and also a Motel6 (cheaper) that is near Hollywood Park Casino which though not as good as Commerce but is a lot closer to LAX. Hollywood Park is literally about a 5 min drive from the airport, and the radisson is also about 5 min from Hollywood Park. If you really need to be close to the airport Hollywood Park is your best bet to play. Commerce is at least a 30min drive away from LAX. (I live in Los Angeles about 10 min from LAX so I should know). Good Luck anyway.

and also a Motel6 (cheaper) [/ QUOTE ] That Motel 6 is quite dangerous and the parking lot there is patroled multiple times a night by sherrifs, LAPD, and Inglewood PD. Prolly safer than HP's parking lot though |
