Tough spot with pocket 10\'s in blind steal
Online 2/4
The villain in this hand is a tough 29/22/2 player. Folded to me on the button, I raise with T[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] T[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], SB folds, BB 3-bets and I cap. Flop: Q[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 6[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 3[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] BB bets, I call. Turn: J[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] He bets, I call. River: Q[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] He bets, I call. No fear on his part. He 3-bet my blind steal and fired 3 bullets on that board. Did I play this one OK by calling down? Does anyone find a fold (certainly not the river, but the turn?) |

I would raise the flop here to find out where I am. You can get away from it if he 3bets, or if he calls I'd bet the turn and fold if he raises. Calling down in this spot is way too passive IMO.

Re: Tough spot with pocket 10\'s in blind steal
Against a 'tough' player, im not sure raising accomplishes much here, as he can easily bluff 3 bet or c/r the turn or in other ways continue to be tough. You have a strong hand in a blind situation as you identified, so a showdown seems appropriate. The turn card is meh but the river is good, fwiw i would bet if checked to on either turn or river. More complete numbers like fold bb to steal or wtsd% are very helpful in situations like this too.

Re: Tough spot with pocket 10\'s in blind steal
I don't think I have a problem with this line. Although your cap should make him aware that you weren't just stealing, he might still fire away at this board depending on what he thinks of you. You can see that he is relatively aggressive so I don't really like a fold here. I think getting to the showdown at 1 bet per round was probably good. Like above poster said, it would be silly to get into a raising war with a tough player when he could be pumping for value as well as trying to push you off the hand.

I think this is a good line. His firing out of position after the cap tells you that he either likes his hand or wants to find out where he is with something like 99 88 77 maybe 66... You dont want him folding if its the later case and you don't want him pumping if its the former case.. I don't think you can find a fold anywhere here on that board.

calling down is fine. don't raise the flop & fold to a 3-bet, it sucks.
