Default Dealers: Have you ever dealt casino parties?

I have. Wow, it sucked.

I was shocked at how incredibly rude to people are, and how they get so freaken stressed when they are not playing for real money. Amazing. They ask you to deal faster, perfectly, show them how to play the game, and when you say a word they tell you to shut up. Amazing, the dealers at the casino don't get this kind of abuse.

And of coarse, they don't tip.

I did this last year during the holidays, and considered doing it this year. While making $200 for 6 hours of work is fine, it really isn't worth it.

There was this one party, in fact the first I ever dealt, that was just terrible. I was told by the other dealers that this was the worst they ever seen. I was dealing, and another table wanted no limit. I was showing some players how to play the game, and dropping a few thoughts on strategy since they asked for it. Since this was my first time, with no official training, the "floor" was observing. Well the other table asked for a new dealer and the floor pulled me over to deal them. I was shocked by these people's behavior. This would never be tolerated in the casino.

So, I started practicing things that would never be tolerated in the casino. I started calling out raises and immediately counted down all the bets without being asked.

Since I had my own plastic cards, I felt like it would be fun to set up a few hands. The royals I used where very nice to handle and did not slip, permitting to do perfect shuffles and silently slide seconds. One player complained that he never got one ace the entire night. Gee, I wonder why?

That would be fun, especially if they were drinking.

I'm actually working for a casino party company right now. The players arent that bad where I work. Possibly because the poker games are for real money.

I enjoy the relaxed environment and occasionally the tips are pretty good. One week a lady gave me 25 tickets for the 50/50 which was around 1200 dollars at that point. I didnt win but it was still a nice gesture.

wow...I do it a lot and I find it to be a very sweet gig. I work for several different companies and there are frequently very high end events with poker and other celebrities. Most of the players don't know how to play, though and that can really slow the game down.

Setting up the deck for a no money game? Sounds like:
1. you have a lot of time on your hands
2. this may not be the gig for you if you need to seek revenge on party a-holes...

As for the tips....well some charm never hurts.... If it's a charity event, I don't even expect them but I have made some pretty big tips at other events...maybe it's my gender

I did this a couple weeks ago. I actually found it a lot of fun. I tried to deal very fast and remain friendly, but didn't really enforce too many strict rules. Like if a complete rookie throws out a raise on the BB, I would start out by letting them know they could check for free.

In short: lotta fun, no tips.

It's where a company or organization throws a party and has blackjack, poker, craps tables set up (usually for play money/tickets to drawings, etc..).

My company had one of these events and guy was setting up the deck. But he was only doing it to "impress" us. He was dealing BJ and calling out the cards and suggesting when people should hit or fold. (E.g., someone would have 18 and he would suggest the guy hit. He deals a 3.)

Thats how I got so many tips when I would deal blackjack. I would check my ace or a 10 and would explain to people how I "Might have 18" And stuff like that. It's really fun being in a relaxed atmosphere where you can screw around and bend the rules because there's no money involved.

yeah, for blackjack and tip hustling that's one thing....to make someone lose at poker because they're being a dick seems like taking too much effort, but hey, to each their own.
