Need help for a job interview!
I am applying Monday for a job as assistant marketing director at an indian casino.
I am supposed to come with ideas, and I have plenty, especially since they don't have a poker room. I am hoping to get hired, and bring poker back. What are some promotion ideas I can use as my own for this indian casino's new poker room? Any promotions that didn't cost the house a ton of money that you guys liked in the past, or have always wished a casino would do? thanks! I will let you know how I do, and which of your ideas I used! |

Re: Need help for a job interview!
They may prefer ideas that make money, so consider not mentioning poker.

Re: Need help for a job interview!
Poker may not directly bring in money, its a pretty break even proposition, its the money they spend on other games and drinks etc and people they bring with them who do the same that increases profits - a casino will never see a big profit from a poker room.

The first thing I would do is read up on the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act and become familiar with the National Indian Gaming Commission.
For instance, poker is considered Class II gaming. Unless poker is already permitted in your state, an Indian Casino may not offer it. Even if it is allowed in the state, the tribal government must adopt an ordinance allowing poker which then must be approved by the Commission. |

What you want to consider is tournaments for high rollers.
Slot tournaments or blackjack depending on the month / players available. Make them free, with a 25k prize or whatever you can afford, but also do some that have an entrance fee +10K or something. If they aren't doing them already it will help get some repeat high rollers coming back. |

As much as it sucks, I doubt they will hire you if your goal is to bring poker back. They'd have to buy new tables, hire dealers, floormen, etc. and without a strong initial player base it could take forever for a poker room to turn a profit.

Casino's look at profit per square foot of space they have, and poker is not a very high margin per square foot. I'd have a lot of other ideas, with poker ranking pretty low. If you come in their thinking poker and they already think it won't work, you won't even be considered for the job. |

Also, I think the most important question to ask is...
What connection does a marketing director have to a poker room? Very little. |

Re: Need help for a job interview!
You're suppose to make money from casual poker players spending money on other stuff (restaurants, show tickets, rooms, hookers, tips, etc..). Identify the big money players and give them some incentive to stick around (discount rooms, discount golf package, massage, any service that is already offered there) and hope they spew money somewhere in the casino. The goal is to keep them there. Offer freerolls. Try to target an event during the drinking times to capture the young and loose crowd. Play on them spending more money when drunk. Bring in hot chicks to play as props. Encourage drinking to loosen people up and make bad spending decisions.
