trap or easy call?
Private medium stakes MTT, 11 players left.
blinds t100/200 UTG (t2685) SB (Hero) (t2050) BB (t4200) utg limps Hero makes it 800 to go with JJ. BB calls. utg pushes. Hero has been card dead, this is the first pfr in an hour. utg is LAG. I put him on AA or possibly, gambling with connectors. BB is likely on a draw but priced in? I think in retrospect with the pot at t3650 this was an easy call? |

Just my online experience that this play is invariably AA, occasionally AKs.

What's happening here is that folding only leaves you 6bb's, you're getting nearly 3:1 on the call and you've got JJ. Sorry if he indeed has AA but I push on an UTG limper in that spot every time. Edit: Especially a LAG |

Re: trap or easy call?
I push the first time it gets to me, you have ten big blinds, no need to get fancy... what are you going to do if flop comes KQ5, you can't fold but you gave villian a chance to suckout more cheaply when you're pot committed.
Just push, if villian is loose he'll gambool with lower PP's or A/x here anyways |

Re: trap or easy call?
Agreed. Middle pairs there is a push. Guess I wondered what most people thought the range of hands were that utg might have.
