Folds I don't make but probably should

Maybe 15 hands in, I've been pretty tight 4-handed, mainly because I'm card dead. He seems like a typical opponent, has done nothing to attract my attention.

folded to my sb and I raise AKo, BB calls.

flop 7d Kh Jc
bet call

turn 2d
check, bet, raise, call

river 5d
bet, he raises.

I just have such a strong feeling I am beat... but I have TPTK. I think I should start making these folds.

calling here isn't bad. i make lots of laydowns all over the place and I still would probably call here.

i think i play too low to understand the fold. we're assumedly check/raising the turn for value so what is it about the 5 that scares us?

It's not the 5 so much as it is his raise. It also completed the backdoor flush draw.

are we assuming, then, that s/he has Kx or Jx (no diamonds) when we bet/call the flop and then check/raise the turn and x happens to be 5 since s/he raised the river?

or do you fear K[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] x[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], mainly? s/he's obviously three-betting us on the turn if s/he has K[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] J[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (or any KJ for that matter) or K7 and probably J7.

i think my point is if s/he raised the flop, the diamond draw should be less scary IF we feel strong enough to check/raise the turn.

This really can't be a post about this particular hand. I'm pretty sure it's about the feeling you mentioned. That instinct is spot on most of the time and the more you play (pretty sure you've played more than me) the more right you are.

Stuff like this is really for you to decide. The 2+2 answer is call.

i call down in these spots but its a waste of money.. ur beat like always [img]/images/graemlins/frown.gif[/img] but u have to call sometimes though!

That's not me dissing 2+2, it's just when you post a hand for advice we can really only give you so much. If you have some superhuman read then go with it if you want.

The be-all-end-all is you really can't argue with "you are good here 1 in X" when X is >=10 and you have a strong hand against relative unknown.
