Default New Mohegan Sun opens

Not a full casino, but only a slot parlor: CNN story.

[ QUOTE ]
Wilkes-Barre car dealership manager Vince Esposito was one of the first to start playing at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs ... "That's entertainment," he said as he pushed the button.

"That's entertainment" ! Great quote.

There's an announcement on Thursday that the Mohegan Sun in CT is doubling in size, will they be bringing back the poker room?

No. I hear they're going to have those slot-machine poker table things where you feed the money in though.

This is the place were one of the eTable companies should go after the business. Mohegan management previously had problems with their poker staff leading to closing the room. eTables would get them a poker room without much staff (although you still need a smaller intelligent staff to know when to start, break, and perhaps prop the right games along with seating players).

With the pent up demand the eTables should do very well, even though they aren't at Hollywood Park for a variety of reasons that don't necessarily reflect on the desirability and fun of eTables.

I agree. I don't much like the idea of the tables obviously, but it seems like if you CAN'T have a real poker room.... this is decent.

It also means I don't have to drive 4 hours for casino play.

I started to post this earlier, but changed my mind for fear of sparking another tedious "will Mohegan reopen the poker room" thread. But since this thread exists now, and for those interested, here's The New London Day article concerning Thursday's planned announcement of a major expansion.

Articles on The Day's website tend to be hard to find after a day or two, so if that link doesn't work, here's the AP story.

I've been highly critical of Hollywood Park's implementation of ePoker in this thread but after numerous plays my opinion is that ePoker is much closer to real B&M poker than online poker and is a lot of fun when the game is good.

I work about five feet from this place. I've already started lobbing various state lawmakers to add a card room. Some seemed to be pretty warm to the idea. One even said he thinks it could be done in the next 2 years.
