Re: Which sport has the biggest luck factor?
Forcing fumbles are lucky, just as hitting 5 consecutive homers takes luck.

Re: Which sport has the biggest luck factor?
Golf's 'luck factors' seem fairly easy to define.

I like how you provide no evidence of any kind for your argument, and simply say, "I am right and you are wrong." Nice job. Causing a fumble (ie the strip) is not random. Recovering fumbles is completely random. Considering that turnovers are, you know, a little bit important - I would say that random fumble recoveries are pretty important and lead to a significant amount of luck. Go read outsiders. [/ QUOTE ] I don't have to provide proof, because the premise is so ridiculous. Very seldom is a lucky bounce on a fumble going to go to a team that it wouldn't have anyway, i.e. the team with the most players in position to catch it. You would have been much better off arguing that luck plays such a huge part in matching up teams during each play, i.e. catching a team in the right defense, etc. Football is the luckiest sport because of the random bounce of the fumbles......I'm still laughing. |

[/ QUOTE ] Never once did I say that "football is the luckiest sport because of the random bounce of fumbles" IT WAS SIMPLY AN EXAMPLE OF THE LUCK INVOLVED IN FOOTBALL THAT IS NOT FOUND IN OTHER SPORTS. |

IT WAS SIMPLY AN EXAMPLE OF THE LUCK INVOLVED IN FOOTBALL THAT IS NOT FOUND IN OTHER SPORTS. [/ QUOTE ] Sure it is. Sometimes a total brick bounces straight up off the rim and falls in the basket. A baseball cued off the bat can have so much spin it takes a weird bounce by a fielder. A tennis let court shot can be a winner or loser based on the bounce. Golf hops can be completely unpredictable. The fact that a football isn't round adds a *slight* element of randomness- mainly on punts- but for the most part the guy closest to the ball is going to recover most fumbles, no matter what shape the ball is. |

Re: Which sport has the biggest luck factor?
Baseball can't be factored in as a single game based on the fact that a lot of teams best player (ace pitcher) doesn't play 4 out of 5 games. If it's not being judged in series baseball cannot be put in this discussion

This is like saying football can't be put in this discussion if the star running back or quarter back aren't starting or in hockey where the star goalie has the night off. |

Re: Which sport has the biggest luck factor?
