Default Energy Trading

So I've decided I'd like to get into trading. As a beginner I have picked up most of the books referred to in the Reading List sticky, and have started reading. But I have been recently turned on to Energy Trading. (I also started reading "The Smartest Guys in the Room", which also piqued my interest in the subject as well).

My question is, is energy trading something an individual can get into, or is it an area you would have to get a job at an energy trading firm to really dig into it? I think it is a little more dynamic than stock trading, with the geopolitics involved, and other variables.

Anyway, I'd like to hear people's thoughts, as well as any training/research/learning resources posters may have.
Thanks in advance,

Trot

I made $5M in the last 6 months trading electronic NYMEX oil and gasoline futures. I had $500K allocated to it to start with. So, yes it is possible.

Any good learning resources you are willing to share on how to get started in futures? PM if you like.

Can it be done, yes, but I wouldnt recommend it. I trade energy at a hedge fund and cant imagine trying to trade without the significant amounts of capital and proprietary software we have. With a limited bankroll you wouldnt be able to implement a lot of the strategies used by funds and the other big trading desks.
