Default Re: The Rake in Low Limit Hold \'em

Lets say its a standard rake of 10% with a $5.00 max. Lets say you pay an average of $3.00 of rake per hand, multiply that by about 50 hands an hour. This means that $150 an hour is going to the rake.

[/ QUOTE ]

This calculation is incorrect because you will not lose 3 dollars on all 50 of those hands. You are only raked when you win a pot. That calculation would be correct if the player had 3 dollars taken from him even when he folded or lost a showdown. The expectation of folding in a raked or unraked pot is still zero.

He's not saying that everyone loses $3 per hand, but rather, that $3 leaves the table. However, assuming fifty hands per hand is way too generous for a live game, especially at these low limits. It is probably more like thirty hands per hour, especially if most pots are going to showdown.

Given average rake, average dealer speed, etc., it is usually assumed that approx. $100 leaves the table every hour. However, this doesn't mean that after ten hours everyone is broke, since people either reach into their pocket for more money or go busto and are replaced by new fish with new money.

In fact, there usually isn't a problem in low limit games with there being an endless supply of money.

No offense, but since you admit you cannot even document that you are a winning player at these limits, until you have some facts to back up your opinions, it is hard to give your bare naked opinion much weight.

I suggest you test your theory by keeping exact score for a year of every penny of your results at these games. Apparently that is something both the OP and I did with results in the 1BB area code. Until a number of people with real and long term #'s from B&M low limit games come forward with higher win rates, I stand by my opinion and my documentation.

I have found that the players are a little better and more aggressive at 6/12 vs. 3/6 - because the pots get bigger. They seem to have more gamble.

Same drop which is great but you have to beat the game and I can not.

[/ QUOTE ]

In my area, it seems easier to beat the 6/12 than the 3/6. The players are not that much better, but the rake is much less as a percentage of Big Bets. Yes, there is more aggression and the swings are worse, but if you have the roll you should try it as you are still probably better than most of other players. Most have not read any books or know much more than flush beats straight.
