I was playing a sit and go at a friends house. I was sitting in about 4th place in chips. Here is where I need some advice...
I get pocket 3s, im not in position, 1st to act in fact. Blinds are 300-600. I normally would raise with a small pocket however, I knew someone else would raise (just by the way the game was going). It makes it around the table to a player who likes to raise with anything, He makes it 1200 (2x the blinds) to go. Next player who is sort of on tilt and is short stacked, goes all in for 2200. What I know of both players, I made the 2200 (1600 more) to call. The original raiser calls as well. Flop comes 4-4-3. So I hit a full house. I know proper poker etiquete is to check it all the way to eliminate a player however, I have pretty much the nuts at this point... and no way the all in player is going to beat me. So I check just for niceness.. Turn comes 7. I now bet 2500. Original raiser talks a bit.. and says, ok, I call. River comes a 9, I go all in. Player calls and flops over a full house, 9's over 4's. My question is, what could I have done differently. And please dont say, you shouldnt have played the 3's because I had more than enough chips. My thoughts are, the original bettor would have bet anyway on the river. Thanks guys/gals |

If you're not going broke with this hand after flopping the FH you are not playing it right.
Stack sizes really help here, but folding PF is actually probably correct here. After that post-flop is fine. NH, shame you lost but that's poker, it happens. |

even though the golden rule is to check it all the way down to eliminate a player? or is this rule sort of old school and out of date?

this never has been the golden rule. and even if it were, why does it matter here, you have a full house? the all-in is going to get eliminated whether you bet or check, it's not like checking magically makes your hand stronger or his hand weaker or something. christ, you have a boat, try to build a side pot.
bbv is a few forums up, sorry you got outdrawn by a 2-outer. |

bbv? [/ QUOTE ] Beats, brags and variance, the forum for bad beat posts. I think your post belong here in the STT forum, because you're asking a genuine question. Okay, when a player is all in, and there's another player still in the pot, it isn't always correct to check it down. You may have a strong hand, and want to extract the most out of it. Also, you hand can be the case that your hand is strong but vulnerable, and may be out drawn if there are two people still in the pot, so you may need to bet to protect it/chase the other player out of the pot. |

thanks for all the advice. Having a ton of chips is why I made the call, also knowing what I knew of both players. I will never make the mistake again of checking all the way though (unless I have no hand )
