I was under the impression that badugi is actually a patented game like some table games and doyles room has an exclusive license/contract to spread it online. Is this inaccurate? [/ QUOTE ] I would be amazed if this were accurate. With all the places online sites are based I'd imagine some of them are based where such a patent hasn't been registered or where patent rights are vague. |

I have seen this game at a casino only once, although we used to play it in illegal games.
We switched our five dollar blinds (equal blinds) game at Foxwoods very late on a Saturday night, when we were down to five players, to 1/3 NLHE, 1/3 PLO and 1/3 KCLB. The original suggestion had been 1/2 NLHE and 1/2 PLO but everyone liked the idea of adding KCLB. It was a very tough table and I had no business staying once the bad players busted out but I loved the big-bet mixed game and I was probably the best Lowball player in the game. I had been winning big and managed to add a little bit to it. Will |

It's a WSOP game, and no other online casino is spreading the game. Pokerstars could put hundreds of newly minted expert players into the WSOP event by spreading the game and offering satallites to the $5K WSOP event." [/ QUOTE ] The event has rebuy's and add-ons. It would be a disservice to put someone there who isn't going to be willing to re-buy/add-on when needed, which is probably likely for most of the people who would be interested in a satallite for the event. |

[/ QUOTE ] I don't believe that a patent has anything to do with the reason why many rooms in Vegas were reluctant to spread the game as "Badougi"/"Padooki" a couple years ago. IIRC it had something to do with Gaming's definitions of what constituted a poker game, and it seems to have been cleared up by now anyway. |
