Default Am I going to get cleaned out?

I'm making my first trip to Vegas in late Feb., and of course, I want to play some poker. I'm not the most experienced, by any stretch, but I've played some online and have been fairly successful by my standards. I started with $125 on Paradise, and now have about $550 that I'm going to cashout to take to Vegas (after I hit the reload bonus this weekend). I've played about 21,000 hands at Paradise, with varying win rates at each level (.10/.20-.50/1). I realize this is a very small sample size. I've read SSHE a couple times, as well as Carson's book, and TOP.

I play in a live game weekly, sometime tournament style, and sometimes a ring game.

So, with this $600 BR, what are my prospects in Vegas playing $2/$4? Any advice?

Given what you said, I think you'll be fine at 2-4. Don't feel that you deserve to win, but with $600 behind you set entirely for poker, it's unlikely that you'll go bust over the course of your trip. The 2-4 games are usually good no matter where you play (and you'll be used to the style from .5-1 online).

Advice? If you see a showdown, be the first to flip your hand. If you win a pot, flip your cards in front of you and hold on to them until the dealer pushes you the pot. Always act quickly, always tip, and don't wear sunglasses.

Thanks for the advice. I was a waiter/bartender for a long time, so I know tipping is a must. How much, and how often at this level?

What about playing the $1-$3 spread limit game?

And don't worry. No sunglasses.

You'll be fine. I would take more if you can and set up a
budget per day.

I always re-read Caro's book before I go and find at the
lower-limits with bad/noob players that the book's
information is spot on. Let's me get drunk and forget about
watching how players are playing. Higher stakes and with
2+2ers... Caro's book is much less effective.

1-3 spread at excalibur? It's an amazingly soft game.

A buck a pot is standard, if you blind steal or BSA, bet and win, etc. etc. a tip isn't really expected.

Don't slowroll, don't berate the fish, and try and really have a good time, low limit is fun limit and everyone hates it when there's one guy complaining while everyone else is just trying to have a good time.

GL!

Live 2/4 games are silly fishy. If you can hang at .25/.50 I'd say you can clean up a live 2/4 game. In the casinos around here, the live 5/10 games play like 1/2 online, the live 3/6 games play like .5/1. I haven't been to LV, but I hear they're comparable.

The first time i played in a casino was 2-6 at excalibur (pre online poker days). Played for 2 or 3 hours, never having read a meaningful poker book, and I broke even. If I could remember my play from 10 years ago, I'm sure I would be sick with myself, but ultimately I caught enough good cards to escape alive. You are well ahead of my pace and understanding at the time I'm sure, so I expect you to do fine.

OP: I'd still say stick to the fixed limit games that you're used to. Unless you are extremely talented, you will likely have trouble adjusting.

2-4 is soft anywhere on the strip. Save yourself a far walk for a game in which your edge may not be as big.
