aces,

the thing with FG% is that it aggregates by total FG%, not simply average amongst your players. he shoots so little that his good FG% is weighted by less... so he makes 3/7 shots a game but if someone else makes 8/21 it doesn't help all that much.

[/ QUOTE ]

Minor point here, but he's a lot closer to 4 for 8 than 3 for 7, percentage wise.

Anyway, I know what you are saying, but you also need to take into account that the guy who would be starting in place of Battier is going to shoot a poor percentage, too. So the value in Battier's percentage is good not only because it balances out some poor shooters on the team, but it because it is also several percentage points better than many players at his position.

Someone with better math skills will have to pick up my side of the argument, I think.

aces,

i agree that battier is good, i'm not saying he's not. i guess i just prefer to build a team with a 3 point gunner at the sf position and basically pick gaurds with a lot of assists and decent FG% because most big guys are good enough there anyway.

That's fair. As I think I mentioend earlier, Battier was pretty much under my radar until late last year, until I saw how highly he was ranked and how well teams he was on were doing. This is the first year I'd ever have considered drafting him this early.

TSC, thanks for your response. Any thoughts on what caliber center I should be looking for?

[/ QUOTE ] Its tough for me to say w/o knowing whose a. Available as a free agent(I always prefer to add this way then a trade) and b. who has whom on their team. I want to say move Ford and Curry, but maybe Bibby and Curry could get you a better player.

If you are going to trade I would look for a team deep at the center position. With a Ford/Curry move you could get someone like Okafor or Bogut. Maybe even someone as like Okur. Make it Bibby/Curry and you could maybe sneak in with B. Miller.

This would leave you with an open spot, and you could probably pick up someone else to fill any other needs.

Aces - Nothing wrong with Bibby at 30, don't know why others don't like it.

As for Yao - I had him, Howard and Duncan ranked very closely, but put Yao at the top for overall value - I took him at #11 as well. Battier is a fine pick, but probably could have had him later in the draft.

[/ QUOTE ]he could try it, but I would throw in Curry just so the villian will think he is getting atleast some sort of replacement at center.

if you're willing to part w. Bibby and Curry, I'd offer just Bibby at first and then if he rejects, upgrade the offer by adding Curry to make it seem like you are "upgrading" your bid.

I have a fantasy basketball preoccupation with Marcus Camby. Where do you guys rank him compared to the centers we've been discussing?

aces,

camby when on his game is fantastic. camby when injured, not so much. in a deeper team where you can maybe take a shot, i don't mind it, but if you're pickins are slim at center it's certainly taking a high variance shot.
