Default Simple poll

I'm trying to understand something my friend is telling me. I got all-in with AA vs JJ but he rivered a jack. My friend says I should be happy because the situation benefited me regardless of the results. Is he right?

I dunno, do you want people to call your aces with jacks preflop?

Fundamental theorem of poker

Specifically, a "mistake" is defined as when you play differently than you would if you could see the other hole cards. Over the long run, you will make money when your opponents make mistakes and will lose money when you make mistakes. When your opponent makes a mistake but gets lucky, as in your AA versus JJ, that's just variance. You made no mistake, while your friend did. The fact that he got lucky does not affect the fact that you made a +EV play. That's what your friend was trying to communicate.

The specific situation did not benefit you, but a trend of that situation does. Obv.

It did not benefit you, it is a misunderstanding of probability. The money you lost will be not be regained by "compensating luck" later, the money is lost in full.
