Sorry if this should be in the trade thread, but here goes.
In a keeper league with 13 other guys. We're all friends, though we did it for $60 apiece. Very competitive. Anyway, I'm 6-2. My opponent, though he's 5-3, might have the best all-around lineup when they're all playing, so my own playoff push is augmented by my desire to do all I can to keep him out. He's got McNabb on a bye, and for some reason doesn't have a backup on his roster. Frye and Rosenfels are the only two F/A QB's in our league who might start (Rosenfels probably not). I currently have two kickers, and was thinking of snatching up Frye solely for the purpose of preventing my friend from getting him, forcing him either to beat me without one, or coaxing him into an uneven trade. I have no intention of punking out and claiming I didn't know. I have Rivers and Carr, and hardly need Frye and I suspect I'll be flamed by at least a couple of the guys if I do this. Thoughts? |

On a question of ethics...there is no question. It's a game. Do what you have to do to win. Whether it's a smart move or not...no idea -- don't know the particulars of your league (chances of beating him without a QB, chances of this loss keeping him out of the playoffs, how many pickups you have, etc.).

people always do this, he should have taken care of his QB situation sooner, it's his fault

The game is pointless if you aren't playing to win. I'm all for it.
I basically just did this yesterday, although in my case, I was just trying to take the guy's best option away. He'll still be able to field a player. |

Yeah, there's nothing wrong with this.
I don't agree with "do whatever it takes to win" (adding and then dropping all available players at a position late in the week so they don't clear waivers in time for Sunday is weak sauce, for example), but this is fine, in my view. I did it in a league eight or nine years ago and no one had any problem with it, either. -McGee |
